Platelets stop you from bleeding. We make platelets.
Platelet BioGenesis is a Harvard University spinout that is making human platelets from stem cells. We have developed and patented a microfluidic bioreactor, and shown that functional platelets can be generated from human pluripotent stem cell cultures. By removing the volunteer donor, we can make platelets that are cheaper, safer, and available on demand. Human iPSC-derived platelets are poised to become among the first stem cell-derived tissues advanced for clinical use and represent a major first step toward a sustainable, donor-free blood system. Platelet BioGenesis is the realization of this vision.
