We Help Millions of Readers Discover Great Books

With hundreds of thousands of digital books being published every year, and an exploding number of older titles becoming available in digital format, BookBub’s founders Josh Schanker and Nicholas Ciarelli noticed a problem that was twofold: readers were having trouble sifting through all the titles to discover great books matching their interests, and publishers and authors were finding it difficult to get the attention of new readers. Out of this need, BookBub was founded in early 2012. Today the service helps millions of readers discover great books with thousands of leading authors and publishers.

Entrepreneurial Location

We’re headquartered in Kendall Square in Cambridge, MA, right next to the MIT campus, perhaps the most concentrated square mile of startups, technological innovation, and entrepreneurial people in the world.

Benefits that Work for You and Make Your Life Better

Meaningful Compensation

All employees receive competitive salaries and significant stock options. Money isn’t everything, but we believe organizations do best when the entire team is well compensated and shares in success.

Comprehensive Benefits

We offer a variety of health, dental, and vision insurance plans across several carriers so employees can customize to their needs. Other perks include commuter discounts, top-notch office space, and a kitchen stocked with free drinks and snacks.

Personalized Equipment

Each person we hire chooses their own computing equipment. We never want our team to be held up by slow technology, so we believe in buying the systems that help each individual work best.

Flexible Schedules

We don’t obsess over when people are in the office and have a “take-what-you-need” vacation policy. We work hard, but understand that people are most productive when they can manage their own schedules.

Social Environment

We work together as a team, learn from each other, and have fun. And that camaraderie also extends outside the office to regular team gatherings such as happy hours, trivia nights, sports leagues, and of course, a monthly book club.

Transparent Communication

We share all of our key metrics and milestones — whether good or bad — in a weekly company-wide meeting. Transparency keeps everyone informed, builds trust, and helps us all make smart, data-driven decisions.

Long-term Focus

We steer clear of short-sighted activities, especially when they’re at the expense of our team’s work-life balance. As such, we avoid burnout traps like all nighters and unrealistic deadlines. We’re driven, but it’s a marathon, not a sprint.

We have an Incredible Team with Huge Opportunities. Now All We Need is You!

BookBub is a rapidly-growing startup launched by serial entrepreneurs and run by a team gathered from the publishing and tech industries. Every day millions of readers use our service to discover great books, and thousands of leading publishers and authors work with us to drive sales and find new fans.

BookBub is unlike just about any other startup in Boston; we’ve bootstrapped our way to millions of members with a small engineering team. Now that we’ve proved that millions of consumers love BookBub, we need to grow and expand our products and features. Our situation is unique because we're small enough that each engineer owns significant chunks of the product, but we're big enough that everything we build is seen by millions. It also means we’re fortunate to be able to offer good market-rate salaries and more equity than is typically found with a company at this stage.

If you're smart, intellectually curious and want to collaborate with other passionate entrepreneurial people, join our team and help us connect readers to books and authors they'll love. We've completed our hiring for the current academic year. Chack back in the fall for updates on new opportunities with us.
